Please reserve my room at the funny farm now

Our children didn't inherit their father's willingness to eat most foods. Our eldest prefers foods to not touch each other, which I think was inherited from my father. Our middle child lives on peanut butter and jelly, tacos, apples, wheat thins, cheese, and baked goods. Probably in that order.

Our youngest, age eleven and two-thirds, is afraid of vegetables. Or something.

I know this, but it's really not my fault that some spaghetti sauces contain actual chunks of tomatoes and/or onions. I thought I was a step ahead of the game today when I provided a tiny bowl alongside his actual bowl of elbow macaroni, ground beef, mozzarella cheese, "shakey cheese" and spaghetti sauce.

"Here's a bowl for you to put your tomatoes in."

"How many will there be?"

"I have no idea. The other option is you could eat them but-"

"GAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

"-as you think it would kill you..."

Then, a few minutes later as he laments getting sauce on his fingers:

"You could use your fork instead of your fingers. Are you afraid they will contaminate your fork?"

"Whaddaya mean 'I'm afraid'?! IT WILL!"

I can just envision all of my grandparents shaking their heads. I don't know what I ever did to deserve These People...

Should've given him Wheaties

These People never cease to amaze me. We're having breakfast and a certain someone is complaining, loudly, about not being able to finish his waffle because it's soggy, he's full, it's ewwy and bleah and he's not feeling it.

Someone else mentioned, "dude, I've eaten them RAW before."

"No, you haven't."

"Yeah, I actually have. And THEY were soggy because of the syrup and all of the ice melting."

"What else did you do? Oh, the orange juice in your cereal."

"Oh yeah! I did that, too."

Clearly I'm running a five-star restaurant over here...

Freezing Fog Advisory

Our area had a Freezing Fog Advisory today. Yes, that's a thing around here. We used to be known as the Great Black Swamp. Swamps are, shall we say, damp. Add in cold air and you get freezy trees, wheeee!

Some schools around us cancelled. Some were on a two hour fog delay. Not us. They actually posted, "Virtual Learning Thursday; No Transportation" for our district.

Well, duh. We've been remote learning this entire school year so far, and just like the rest of the country, we'd finished out the spring semester in the same way. Which means these children, These People, have been home for nine months. I could have had an entire pregnancy in the amount of time everyone's been home together. Yeeeeeesh.

We are hanging in there. Not much decking of the halls yet, as we are slogging, chugging, soldiering on through school, but we do actually have two Christmas trees up for the first time ever. And my Leon elves. There's been little time to bake or shop as I'm supervising a certain fifth grade student who makes it his personal mission in life to sneak into other screens the second he thinks his particular assignment is done. It's a lot of lassoing and reeling back in. He has made a lot of progress and gotten grades back up where they should be after quite a slump, so yay for progress!

Must get back to it, so stay warm, stay home, stay safe!
