When what to my wondering eyes should appear

Out of the blue, this kid decided to hunt out our musical instruments. I heard strumming and when I investigated, this is what I found!

He went on to try out Dada’s trumpet. Good golly, Miss Molly!

I think someone is excited for band next year...

Thinking spring

We have one tulip! I’m not sure that I knew we had it. I think the bunnies get to it before it has a chance to bloom each year. I’m so pleased!

And I love the mix of the dead, scraggly leaves amidst the fresh, colorful growth of spring. Reminds me of that old song, “make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other’s gold.”

Springtime around here is amazing (once the snow is gone, haha) and I’m always delighted by the colors after a long, cold winter of white, black, grown, gray, and bleah.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Bosley is our sun dog. He follows sun puddles around to flop down into, and his favorite is when I leave the deck door open for the slab of sunshine that spills through. He likes to snooze there and block traffic three ways.

Honey gets too hot, so she prefers the kitchen floor at the intersection with the library and the sunroom, also blocking traffic three ways. The worst part is that she is skittish, so when you're attempting to climb over or around her with your arms full, she succumbs to the sudden urge to stand up to scramble out of the way. One of these days there is going to be a catastrophic mess that Bos will be all too happy to clean up.

And should anyone be contemplating acquiring a Great Pyrenees, one should know that they dig. A fair amount. Wherever they feel like it. Sometimes at the bottom of your deck stairs. Sometimes (often) right beside trees. I think she's part gopher. Then, if you have a Heinz 57, say, they decide to dig furiously in the pre-dug holes any time they pass one.

These two are part of why we can't have nice things.

But they're sweet, and they're adorable when they're sleeping, so even though they shed roughly as much as a Golden Retriever, I suppose we'll keep them...

Spring means baseball

Dada roped Damon into signing up for baseball this year. It's our first time with a team sport, being a karate family for many years. As you can see from the pictures, we started off with some pretty fair weather...

This past Monday night, which was chosen because it was supposed to be raining Tuesday evening, was windy. Our practice field is out in the middle of ... fields... and there aren't any trees for windbreaks. It was about 52 degrees by the time we finished, but the wind was ranging from 17-21 mph and these poor kids were trying to grip metal bats and catch balls when some of them were just in hoodies and pants that were flapping on them like they were trying to become airborne. Damon wore his shirt from school, under a hoodie, with his raincoat on top to cut some of the wind, and he was still a kidsicle. I wore a T-shirt, a flannel shirt, and a winter coat with its liner zipped in and I was still freezing and more than happy to chase the foul balls hit into the field lest I freeze to the bleachers. Bleacher butt is no fun anyway, and though I had a wool blanket in the car (thanks to Dada's obsession with them), it looked like it was going to rain on us and did in fact sprinkle while they were warming up, and I didn't want wet wool. *insert crinkle nosed face here, haha*

Anyway, practice is tonight again as long as there isn't snow on the field. Since it is bright and sunny we will be bundling up once again for mid-forties this evening!

Gorgeousness this morning

Once again, Ohio is off her meds

I'm not sure how I manage to forget every single year how fickle spring is around here...

I took these Monday morning to show my Aunt Chris how pretty spring is in Ohio, as she is in Arizona and has desert pastels to enjoy.

Then Wednesday morning, the Grinch woke up to this:

I will say that it was absolutely gorgeous, all the more because it is the only kind of snow I like- none stuck to the sidewalks or streets! The only thing I had to shovel was the wooden deck out back. Everything else was clear, driving was no issue, school was on time- perfect Winter Wonderland snow.

Apparently the airport at Toledo got 5" which broke their previous record. It's mostly gone now, except for shady patches and north sides of buildings. I also have to say that I much prefer snow on pretty colors like pink and green than snow on brown and gray. I'm just sayin'. Here's hoping that we are now on track for our regularly scheduled spring weather. Enjoy!
